Here are six steps for creating the perfect lip look:
While everyone's lip shape differs and standards of beauty constantly evolve, the key is that a lip shape is beautiful if it complements your specific face shape and personal style. When defining the ideal lip shape, ensure the outline is crisp, the lower lip is slightly fuller than the upper lip, the size is proportionate to the face, the corners of the mouth are slightly upturned, the Cupid's bow is well-defined, and the lips possess a sense of dimension.
Once the shape is determined, you can begin application. First, cleanse your lips with a soft tissue, paying special attention to the outer lip line; if your lips are very dry, apply a little lotion to ensure they are adequately moisturized.
Use a lip liner or lip brush to outline the desired shape. Keep your lips relaxed, ensuring the junction where the upper and lower lips meet at the corners is clearly defined and harmonizes with the overall lip shape.
Apply lip color using a lip brush. Hold the brush between your thumb and index finger; start with the upper lip, brushing from the corners toward the center, then repeat the process for the lower lip. Ensure the edges are crisp, and consider slightly deepening the color at the corners, the Cupid's bow, and the center of the lower lip line.
Gently wipe away any color that has strayed outside the lip line using a tissue or cotton swab, and touch up those areas with your base makeup color.
6. If using a matte lipstick, lightly dab a sponge with powder along the outer edge of the lips to unify the skin tone and enhance the definition of the lip color.
