The formulation structure of eyeshadow is largely similar to that of foundation.
However, eyeshadow differs from foundation and pressed powder products in that it offers a wider range of colors and often incorporates additional effects such as luster; consequently, a broader variety of coloring and pearlescent pigments is utilized. Furthermore, given the delicate nature of the skin around the eyes, the colorants selected must be non-irritating.
Commercially available eyeshadows are typically formulated by combining inorganic pigments, organic pigments, pearlescent pigments, and brightening agents to create a diverse array of colorful products.
In addition, novel biodegradable pigments-such as photonic crystal pigments-show promise for use in eyeshadow products, offering both safety and excellent color performance.
